Phil Wins THE Open

It was the best performance of his career and will probably go down as one of the greatest final rounds in major championship history.  Obviously, Phil cemented his place as one of the all-time greats, and he's only a U.S. Open and maybe a couple more majors away from approaching the level achieved by Jones, Nicklaus, and Woods.  Arguably, winning 6 or 7 contemporary majors is as difficult as it would have been to win 8 or 9 in previous generations.  It is a lot more difficult to win today than it was in any time during the past because there are just a lot more good players in the game--- regardless of what guys like Johnny Miller say.  Phil hits it long and still has the great touch around the greens, so if his putting holds up there is no reason he can't remain competitive for at least another five to six years.

In addition, Phil did something that Tiger has never done in a major: he overcome a deficit to win. Speaking of Tiger, the dude just doesn't have it anymore, and there is no indication that he is going to get it back.  Sure, he is still a great tour player, but where is it when it counts?  I think he is far too conservative (ever notice how often he hits first from the fairway?) which gives him no margin for error, sometimes pars are not good enough, he needs to learn how to go out and take a major because it's clear that nobody is going to hand one over to him as they did for the pre-09 Tiger.

Back to the pool, the Sun Devils won the 3rd lap and the standings are really tight going into the last few weeks of the schedule--- remember it's a shorter season this year.
